What is SoarnoL

Soarnol™ is an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer developed by Mitsubishi Chemical's own technology. It has high gas barrier properties, oil resistance and high transparency derived from vinyl alcohol structure as well as moisture resistance and extrudability comes from ethylene unit. Additionally, Soarnol consists of carbon, oxygen and hydrogen so no harmful gases are generated when it is incinerated, and its combustion heat is half that of polyethylene.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the permit co-ordination for planned maintenance, unplanned and project work, acting as a focal point between Operations, Engineering and Site contract personnel.

Duties include

  • Control and issue process plant work permits.
  • Maintain an up to date data base for all permits issued providing a monthly report to the HSE Manager on PTW activity.
  • Carry out Permit Acceptor & Signatory training, including refresher training for site-based personnel & contractors as requested.
  • Work with operations, engineering and contractors to ensure the safe and timely completion of process plant maintenance, unplanned and project work.
  • Contribute towards the development of method statements, procedures and risk assessments.
  • Support process plant shutdowns in terms of planning, scope development, documentation and execution of PTW activities
  • Communicate and demonstrate commitment to best HSE practices.
  • Support the implementation of HSE practices within the operations, engineering and contractor environment as a fully integrated management system.
  • Take an active role in the implementation of organisational & operations department specific key performance indicators (KPI's), issuing frequent reports to Operations Manager & HSE Manager
  • Undertake training as identified by the PTW supervisor necessary to maximise performance.
  • Carry out additional tasks as directed by the PTW supervisor.
  • Carry out the role of Fire/Toxic roll call co-ordinator for MCUK incidents
  • Conduct regular safety audits on plant and highlight any areas for improvements through Maximo/CATS systems.
  • Raise PR's for all operational consumables, e.g. Permit to workbooks, torches, batteries, knifes, tools etc and maintain adequate stock levels within the permit office.
  • Where necessary provide support for the training and assessment of site visitors and contract-based personnel.
  • Supervise Contractor jetting teams during grade changes, ensure priorities are understood and followed. Ensure work is to an acceptable standard.
  • Production of any site labelling requirements using hardware & software supplied.

Qualifications

  • OND in relevant Engineering / Process discipline
  • NEBOSH Advantageous but not essential
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar supporting role within the petrochemical / chemical process industries.
  • Have supported a major process plant shutdown.
  • Experience of working at the interface between employer and contract support personnel with ability to reinforce high HSE standards.
